**1847 Issue—Demonetized Period**

92°		10¢ 1847 used on the last day the 1847 Issue was valid for postage before demonetization 10¢ Black (2), large margins except touched at top where there is a tiny nick, tied by bold red circular grid cancel with matching "Boston 10cts. 30 Jun" (1851) integral-rate circular datestamp and "STEAM" straightline handstamp on blue folded cover to New York City, docketing on back indicates the letter was written June 28, 1851, and arrived July 1, 1851--the first day of the new 1851 Issue, sender wiped off first city and wrote "New York", Very Fine, an extremely rare use on the last day of the 1847 Issue, the stamps were demonetized beginning July 1, 1851, when the new 3¢ rate went into effect (although many post-June 30 uses are known), incredibly this is the only normal 10¢ cover listed in the USPCS census that can be definitively dated to June 30, 1851 (a 10¢ bisect is also listed but it is in the Miller collection at the New York Public Library and not available to collectors), ex Craveri and Hackmey (Image) Search for comparables at SiegelAuctions.com Get Market Data for [United States 2]	E. $ 2,000-3,000 SOLD for $13,000.00 Will close during Public Auction
93°		5¢ 1847 Issue mailed on the first day of demonetization and the first day of the new 1851 Issue 5¢ Red Brown (1), large margins to full, late impression, tied by red square grid cancel with matching "New-York Jul. 1" (1851) circular datestamp on folded letter datelined June 30, 1851, to Naugatuck, Connecticut, Very Fine and rare use on the first day of demonetization of the 1847 Issue, the stamps were no longer valid for postage beginning July 1 when the new 3¢ rate went into effect and the three initial 1851 stamps were issued, this is one of only three 1847 covers mailed on this date in the USPCS census, ex Hart, Boker and Hackmey, illustrated in Brookman (p. 27) (Image) Search for comparables at SiegelAuctions.com Get Market Data for [United States 1]	E. $ 2,000-3,000 SOLD for $4,500.00 Will close during Public Auction
94°		Demonetized use of the 5¢ 1847 Issue in combination with the 1¢ Type II 1851 Issue to make up the 6¢ double rate--one of only two 1847 covers bearing 1851 Issue stamps 5¢ Red Brown (1), ample margins to full, used with 1¢ Blue, Type II (7), large to huge margins including part of adjoining stamp at bottom, tied by greenish "Cannonsburgh Pa. Sep. 15 (1852)" circular datestamp with second clear strike at left, stamps also tied together by pen stroke on buff envelope to Lexington, Kentucky, manuscript "no go" and "10" rate with the former crossed out--evidently treated as paid, either by Cannonsburgh postmaster or by receiving postmaster at Lexington--1852 docketing at top Very Fine; some minor ink erosion in reply docketing, 5¢ with tiny margin tear at bottom. This is an extraordinary and extremely rare combination use of the 5¢ 1847 and 1¢ 1851 Issues on a double 3¢ 1851 rate cover. The USPCS census lists only two covers bearing 1847 and 1851 Issue stamps used together: the cover offered here (no. 10250) and a cover with 5¢ Red Brown (1), two 1851 1¢ Type IV (9) and single 3¢ 1851 (11) paying 10¢ transcontinental rate from Exeter, New York, to San Francisco, January 4, 1856 (no. 5697).
