#148, 6c Carmine, a stunning pair of folded entires to London, England, one franked with a single and the other with a horizontal pair, each with stamps tied
by fancy eight-point star NYFM cancels with hollow centers, the single is a May 23, 1871 usage and the cancellation is in black, while the entire with a pair (which pays the 6c treaty rate, plus 6c supplementary mail fee) is tied by two
stunning strikes of the fancy cancel in red, plus with a portion of the scarce red boxed "Supplementary/Mail" handstamp appears at bottom of entire, both with red New York c.d.s. and London Paid arrival c.d.s., also in red, entire with pair has small
edge tear at top, overall a magnificent pair of covers perfect for exhibition. (imagea)
