O116 |
#O116, 6c War on soft porous paper, a marvelous complete exhibition page containing a most impressive selection of various "Fort" cancellations on 17 single
stamps and three pairs, virtually every one is from a different fort and all have been identified, includes cancellations from Arizona Territory (three), Colorado (one), Dakota Territory (three), Indian Territory (one), Kansas (two), Missouri (one),
Montana Territory (two), New Mexico Territory (two) and Wyoming Territory (five), of particular note is the presence of several which are quite fancy in design, including two different types from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, unusual "US" of Jefferson
Barracks, Missouri, and a beautiful central strike of the "Indian Head" cancel of Fort Keough, Montana Territory, all acquired individually over many years by Mr. Ainsworth, there is an occasional small flaw found on some of the stamps of little
importance, with almost all cancellations very fine and quite select; several stamps are ex-Markovits. (Image) |

O4/O117 |
#O4/O117, 6c Lincoln design officials, the highly desirable exhibition group of 93 used items (almost all singles) selected to display a wonderful variety
of unusual cancellations which are most challenging to find on any official stamps, including fancy and/or geometric types such as stars, Maltese Cross, letters, leafs and even a Kicking Mule of Port Townsend, Washington Territory (also some other
territorial postmarks as well), colored cancellations include red, magenta, blue, violet and a very rare green cancel on a 6c Navy (PF certificate), as with all cancellation studies there will be some small flaws to the stamps, but the cancels
themselves within this group are well above average; just as used stamps alone with "normal" cancels this group catalogs in excess of $8,000.00. (Image) |
Est. $3,000-4,000
SOLD for $6,750.00

O4/O117 |
#O4/O117, 6c Lincoln design officials balance of accumulation, consisting of hundreds of items on stock cards and pages, wide ranging with a smattering of stray trial color and plate proofs, a large number of mint and unused singles, many of
which have higher catalog values, hundreds of used stamps unsorted for better cancels, multiples (both mint and used) including even a few plate number blocks, condition is quite mixed but there are many salable items to be mined out of this
accumulation; substantial catalog value is involved; examination essential to appreciate just how conservative our estimate will prove to be. |
