#6, 1c Blue, Ty. Ia, position 92L4, large and marvelously even margins all around, leaving the complete design intact and framed by full margins, deep luxuriant
color and a well incised impression on bright fresh paper, neat unobtrusive and face-free town c.d.s. at left, extremely fine in every regard. An incredibly choice and desirable used example of this classic rarity, of which very few still exist in
this premium condition. The rarity of Type Ia stamps is due to the fact that only 18 of the 20 positions on the bottom row of plate 4 sheets produced this type, which shows the full ornaments at bottom.Accompanied by a 2009 PF certificate, which
has assigned an XF 90 grade to this gem (SMQ $30,400.00), the highest grade the PF has currently awarded any used Scott #6. The PSE in their Population Report only lists one in the grade of XF 90, and four grading a bit higher.

#29, 5c Brown, Ty. I, a very rare mint example that is uncommonly well centered and margined, deep luxuriant color, full clean original gum, lightly hinged, very
fine and choice; the 1859 Five Cent Brown Type I is one of the most underrated 19th century stamps to find both sound and with original gum, as evidenced by it being often missing from even the most advanced collections of mint United States stamps,
such as the Weisman, Lyons, Floyd and Lessin, whose collections did not have an original gum example; 1972, 1989 and 1999 PF certificates; ex-Golin. (Image) |
