#491, 2c Carmine coil, Ty. II, perf. 10 vert., a highly desirable pair, remarkably well centered within large margins, intensely rich color in the characteristic
carmine shade, strong impression, light 1917 duplex cancel, extremely fine; used pairs of this coil are greatly undercataloged, as they are offered with far less frequency than mint pairs, which catalog considerably more, and it is particularly
challenging to find a one in this marvelous quality; 1976 APS certificate and a 2009 PSE certificate (VF 80 - a terribly conservative grade on our opinion; SMQ $3,850.00); despite its unexpectedly low grade, only one pair grades higher. (Image) |

#509, 9c Salmon red, a phenomenal single that is in the finest quality imaginable, as it boasts incredibly large margins and is absolutely perfectly balanced within
these lavish borders, brilliantly fresh color, light boxed town cancel, a superb gem for the finest collection; 2009 PSE certificate (Gem 100 Jumbo; SMQ $420.00 for a "mere" 98, the highest grade they price and not relevant to this spectacular
gem); not only is this the sole used example to receive this unsurpassable grade, it is the only #509, whether mint or used, to receive any Gem 100 grade, let alone with a Jumbo designation. (Image) |

#519, 2c Carmine, a most impressive example of this scarce stamp, which is one of the most difficult of all the Washington-Franklin heads to find in used
condition, excellent centering within considerably larger margins than typically found, deeply rich color and an unusually strong impression, light face-free cancel, extremely fine for this rarity; few used #519's can compare to this, with this
being only the second premium used copy we have offered in the last ten years; 1989 and 2000 PF certificates; ex-Hoffner, Rubin. (Image) |

#519, 2c Carmine, well centered single with natural s.e. at top, tied to an extremely scarce cover by "New York, N.Y./Oct 20/1917" duplex pmk., sent to a military
address in Camp Dix, N.J., cover with defects at top due to an irregular opening, nevertheless any cover with a genuine #519 as its franking ranks as a true rarity in 20th century U.S. postal history, with probably less than a dozen certified
covers in existence; 1989 PF certificate; ex-Siskin, Agris. (Image) |

#539, 2c Carmine rose coil waste, Ty. II, perf. 11x10, bright color, well centered for this, with light oval cancel that may not be able to be authenticated as
contemporary, nonetheless a genuine example of this scarce coil waste stamp; accompanied by conflicting certificates regarding the cancel, the 1999 PF certificate states genuine, while the 2009 PSE certificate states a fake cancel (therefore the
stamp is offered on its merits). (Image) |

#544, 1c Green coil waste, perf. 11, the used single here is, without question, one of the finest in existence, as this stamp possesses margins and centering
unlike almost any other and is completely fault free, being wonderfully well centered amid lavishly large margins that are most uncharacteristic of this stamp, sumptuously deep rich color and a crisp impression, light and neat wavy line machine
cancel, extremely fine; a gem example of this rarity for the finest collection; 1960 and 1989 PF certificates; ex-Saadi. (Image) |

544 |
#544, 1c Green coil waste, perf. 11, well centered and margined single tied by "Jackson Mich./Dec 21/1922" machine cancel on Christmas picture postcard to Manchester,
Michigan, this date represents the earliest documented usage, quite fresh, very fine. This is the most important of the mere thirteen recorded #544's on cover or card, as it is the earliest recorded usage (and the only one with this date).
The exact date of issue of this rare coil waste stamp is unknown, as it was not recognized until 1936 and no plate numbers exist. It was at one time thought these were printed from plates 14012-13, which went to press in 1923. However, this postcard
disproves that theory and supports Wallace Cleland's hypothesis that the first stamps of #544 came from plates 13948-49, which started on press December 5, 1921. Also of note is that this was the only coil waste cover missing from the "Alpha"
collection of Washington-Franklin earliest document usages, sold by our firm in February, 2006.One of the most important covers for either the Washington-Franklin student or for the collector of earliest documented usages. Accompanied by a 1992
PF certificate. (Image) |

594 |
#594, 1c Green coil waste, a phenomenal quality used example of one of the rarest stamps of the 20th century, which is missing from many of the most advanced
collections, we know of no other used example that combines all the remarkable physical characteristics of this stamp, as it possesses centering and margins which are unheard of on this notoriously poorly centered and tightly margined issue, with
enormously large margins all around and being exceptionally well centered within them, gorgeous fresh color and a strong impression, neat machine postmark and, of course, completely free of any of the faults which plague so many of the existing
copies, an extremely fine gem which is the largest margined example of #594 we have ever seen and one of the very finest copies extant; 1972 PF certificate for a pair on piece from which this stamp was taken; ex-Sheriff. (Image) |

#613, 2c Harding, rotary press printing, perf. 11, quite well centered for this, particularly when compared to other existing examples, with its perforations well
clear of the design all around (a rare occurrence), intensely rich color and an unusually clean impression on bright paper, very light and unobtrusive wavy line machine postmark, completely devoid of the faults which affect many of the known copies,
very fine. The Two Cent Harding rotary press perforated 11 stamp is one of the most sought-after rarities in United States philately. There are 43 confirmed singles, one used pair and a newly discovered strip of three - all of which are used.
Nearly two-thirds of the existing population are sound, however a great many of these are found quite poorly centered, often with the perforations cutting the design. The Collier copy is among the better centered examples available and one of the
most eye appealing in terms of its overall quality.A highly desirable example of this important 20th century rarity. Accompanied by 1975 and 2002 PF certificates; ex-Lessin. (Image) |
