#125, 3c Blue, tied to piece of 4c envelope (#U255), along with 2c Brown re-issue (#124), by "New York A/Mar 18/1884" duplex, 3c stamp with natural straight-edge at
left, both stamps are exceptionally fresh, stamps lifted and hinged in place, the piece itself has a thin on the back not affecting the stamps which are both sound, very fine. This is one of the most desirable used Three Cent 1869 Pictorial
re-issues in existence. Of the less than fifteen recorded copies, nearly all have faults of one sort or another. Not only is this example sound, but it is also the only one to clearly show a year date cancel (there was at one time one on cover, but
it has not been seen in over 50 years). With this being the only one to be found on piece, it is currently the closest to an "on cover" example that one can get. An important showpiece for either the 1869 specialist or the advanced collector of
used United States stamps. Accompanied by a 1975 PF certificate; ex-Coulter. The Scott catalog value is for "an attractive fine-very fine example with minimal faults". (Image) |

#126, 6c Blue re-issue, an exceedingly choice used example of a stamp that is far more rare used than mint, featuring exceptional centering within large margins,
brilliant color on fresh paper, light duplex postmark which proves its contemporaneous usage, extremely fine; only a tiny percentage of the 2,226 Six Cent Re-issues were ever used, and of these only a small handful exist in this premium
condition; 1981 PF certificate (Image) |

#127, 10c Yellow re-issue, an especially desirable example of this scarce re-issue, which is much more rare used than mint, despite the identical catalog values,
marvelously well centered amid extravagantly large margins, particularly intense color, neat strike of a New York oval registry cancel distinctive to used re-issues, extremely fine; one of the finest known of the approximately 30 used examples
recorded; 1985 and 1995 PF certificates, as well as a 2009 PSE certificate (XF 90; SMQ $4,800.00); this is by far the highest grade the PSE has given to a used #127 (next highest is a 75) and the only copy to be so graded. (Image) |

#130, 24c Green and violet re-issue, wonderfully well centered within large margins, strong rich colors and crisp impressions, unusually light oval registry cancel,
extremely fine; although this stamp catalogs more mint than used in Scott, it is far rarer in used condition, as it is estimated that only 50-75 of the 2,091 issued of this value were ever used, and very few of these are found in the
outstanding condition of this stamp; signed Brettl and accompanied by a 1986 PF certificate. (Image) |

#140, 12c Dull violet with grill, considerably better centering than typically found on this rare Bank Note, impressively rich color and a well incised impression,
light cork cancel, fully defined "H" grill, choice very fine; to illustrate just how hard this is to obtain a high grade, the Twelve Cent is the only value of the 1870 Grilled series not have a used stamp graded higher than 85 (even the rare 24c has
two 90's); 1991 PF certificate and a 2009 PSE certificate (VF 80; SMQ $3,600.00); only two grade higher (both 85). (Image) |
