1865 "Johnson's Box" labels, complete set of six labels with types I, II and III in green and red-orange (the type II green is unlisted by Springer), couple of small
flaws, a fine and rare complete set of these unusual labels; according to the Springer catalog, McElroy's Philadelphia directory of 1865 lists J.H. Johnson as a stationer at 7 N. 10th Street, Johnson issued these labels in connection with his "Free
P.O. Box", and the design was apparently issued to honor the martyred president, however their status is uncertain. (imagea)
