Position 3, full framelines at left and bottom, virtually complete at top, cancelled by four neat pen strokes with one just tying the stamp on Apr. 3, 1846 folded letter to New York, lightly struck red "Baltimore Md. Apr. 6" circular datestamp, matching "Paid" and "5" in circle, couple light file folds, one crease thru stamp VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A CHOICE TIED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT BUCHANAN PROVISIONAL ON BLUISH PAPER -- ONLY THREE RECORDED WITH RED BALTIMORE DATESTAMP. The Baltimore provisionals were printed first on bluish and then on white paper (the Scott catalogue reverses the chronological order). Most examples are known used with the blue Baltimore datestamp, three are known struck in red. No. 24 in the Hayes census. 1002°		St. Louis Mo., 5c Black on Greenish (11X1). Position 1, large even margins, cancelled only by the orange-red "St. Louis Mo. Feb. 27" circular datestamp, deep impression on bright greenish paper, faint vertical crease ending in a small tear at bottom EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. THE 5-CENT FIRST PRINTING ON GREENISH PAPER IS EXTREMELY RARE IN THIS CHOICE USED CONDITION. ONLY 20-25 OFF-COVER EXAMPLES ARE KNOWN CANCELLED EXCLUSIVELY BY THE RED DATESTAMP.
