1076		3c Brown Red, Re-Issue (104). Deep rich color and detailed impression on bright paper, neat strike of duplex cancel, small thin spot at top, tiny corner perf crease at bottom left EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. THIS IS EASILY ONE OF THE FINEST OF THE 20 USED EXAMPLES OF THE 3-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE RECORDED IN OUR CENSUS. A GREAT RARITY. Our unpublished census of Scott 104 in used condition contains only 20 used examples of the 3c 1861 Re-Issue (one has never been certified). Of these, less than half are sound. 1077		5c Brown, Re-Issue (105). Choice centering with wide and beautifully balanced margins, light strike of cork cancellation at left, detailed impression EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE, WHICH HAS BEEN GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E. -- EASILY ONE OF THE FINEST IN EXISTENCE. Only 672 were issued, and of these only a small number were used. Our unpublished census of this issue records only 35 used examples. Unpublished Census No. 105-CAN-30. Ex Tahoe. With 2002 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95, SMQ $32,800.00). This is the only example graded XF-Superb 95 by P.S.E., and only one has graded higher to date. 1078°		90c Blue, Re-Issue (111). Perfect centering with wide even margins, deep rich color and intense impression on crisp white paper, neatly cancelled by New York City circular datestamp and oval grid EXTREMELY FINE GEM. ONE OF THE TWO FINEST USED EXAMPLES OF THE 90 CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE. ONLY FOUR USED COPIES ARE KNOWN TO EXIST. AN OUTSTANDING CLASSIC RARITY. The footnote in Scott Catalogue at the end of the Re-Issue section states that "Five examples are recorded of No. 111 used, one of which has a non-contemporaneous cancel. Value is for centered and sound example (two are known thus.)" The four recorded genuinely used copies of this stamp are as follows: 1) Census No. 111-CAN-01, sound and superbly centered, ex Sheriff, Zoellner and Dauer (Siegel Sale 961, lot 66, realized $280,000 hammer), the stamp offered here, 2) Census No. 111-CAN-02, oval grid cancel, ex Twigg-Smith (Siegel Sale 835, lot 216, realized $50,000 hammer), 3) Census No. 111-CAN-03, sound, duplex cancel, centered slightly to top, from our 1986 Rarities sale (lot 97), and 4) Census No. 111-CAN-04, centered to top, small corner creases at top left with one ending in a small tear, offered in the Ameripex auction. This stamp is the basis of the Scott earliest documented use, since it is the only dated example. The Scott footnote describes the date as Nov. 30, 1888. Census No. 111-CAN-01.
