VERY FINE. A RARE USE OF THE 2-CENT BLACK JACK ON HAWAIIAN MAIL, AND ONE OF THE FEW MOURNING ENVELOPES EXTANT.
The black-bordered mourning envelope was used by Elisha H. Allen in honor of King Kamehameha IV, who died on November 30, 1863. This was carried on the Hanoverian bark Harburg, departing Honolulu on February 27, 1864, and arriving in San Francisco on March 20. (Image)
VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE 2-CENT BLACK JACK AND 12-CENT 1861 ISSUE FRANKING ON A COVER FROM HAWAII.
This was carried on the American bark Smyrniote, departing Honolulu on February 17, 1866, and arriving in San Francisco on March 10 (mail was datestamped March 12). (Image)
